Early Harvest Dinner Party

We had a lovely dinner party tonight with some friends. Neil, Corrine and their daughter Ruby.
It gave me a chance to try out some new recipes and use some ingredients that I have waited all season for. Like I mentioned to them, unlike spring veggies that are great raw or with a light steam, fall vegetables have had the benefit of an entire growing season, have starchier flesh, and thus need a bit more help in the kitchen.
The menu was designed to show-off some of the beautiful gifts that the farm offered to us this year. Almost everything was from within 100 miles, and the flavours were just wonderful.

Appetizers: -
Italian Margarita Pizza w/ Boccancini from Scratch, Salsa verde made w/ tomatilloes and chili on crostini, Melon/Proscuitto

Main: Eggplant Parmigiana (Two Ways), Pasta Salad with a Creamy White Bean Pesto and Lemon, Beef Tenderloin Rubbed with Fennel and Coriander, Roasted Carrots, Farm-Mix Salad w/ Local Dressing.

Dessert: Bittersweet Chocolate Pear Tart with Fall Spices and Orange Zest. Chantilly Cream. (I thought this would be a nice finishing touch leading into the fall season. Allspice, cinnamon and cloves.)

After: Tea, limoncello and Chocolate Sweets.

We had a wonderful time. Good conversation, good food, good company.
We wish Ruby the best of luck in Bolivia!! And the family a wonderful rest of summer.
